The First Man To Fly

A Poem by Terry Davis

I’ve failed so many times before
Braver men then I have died
I need to try it just once more
I need to see if man can fly

Pull out the chocks and spin the blades
Lift the tail and point me to the wind
I pull my goggles on to my face
Let’s see some new history begin

I feel the wheels bounce on the grass
The air starts to lift flimsy wings
I feel myself lifted aloft at last
This day will change everything
